Amman: Chairman of the National Cybersecurity Council, Ahmad Hiasat, on Tuesday welcomed a Syrian delegation led by Minister of Communications and Technology Abdul Salam Heikal, with Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat also in attendance.
According to Jordan News Agency, the visit marks the start of a working tour by the Syrian delegates aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation and sharing expertise in the fields of communications, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and technical education. This initiative is part of joint efforts to build a secure and advanced digital infrastructure.
Hiasat emphasized that cybersecurity is a national priority, asserting that the next phase requires broader Arab coordination to tackle common digital challenges. He highlighted that under the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan has been a regional pioneer in identifying the seriousness of cyber threats. The country established an early and integrated national system that has effectively countered rising cyberattacks and digital issues.
During the meeting, Firas Zoubi, Director of the Policy, Cooperation, and Training Department at the Council, presented a detailed technical briefing. He explained the Council’s organizational structure, operational strategies, and strategic pillars, which include governance, threat response, infrastructure protection, and the development of national skills. Zoubi mentioned that Jordan aspires to become a regional hub for cybersecurity and a center for digital innovation.
Both parties concurred that cybersecurity transcends technical systems and involves public awareness and digital literacy, serving as the first line of defense against cyber threats. They emphasized the necessity of ongoing training, building specialized national capabilities, and enhancing both institutional and personal readiness within a cohesive cybersecurity framework based on clear policies and unified regional standards.
