Ramtha Leads Jordan in Potato Production with 225,000 Tonnes Annually

Amman: Northern Ramtha district’s annual potato production stands at 225,000 tonnes, making it the top-ranked Jordanian region in potato production, Director of Ramtha Agriculture, Ahed Obeidat, estimated. According to Jordan News Agency, Obeidat noted that the area planted with potatoes in the district is estimated at 37,000 dunums. He emphasized the quality of the potatoes, stating that testing done in the Ministry of Agriculture’s laboratories confirmed the product is free of chemical or organic pesticide residues. Obeidat further explained that the potato crop in Ramtha is irrigated from clean wells. The surplus production has attracted investors to the region, leading to the establishment of food processing plants that prepare semi-fried potatoes.
