Army Foils Infiltration, Drug Smuggling Attempt from Syria

Amman: The Eastern Military Zone, in the early hours of Tuesday, thwarted an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle a large quantity of narcotics from Syrian territory into the Kingdom. According to Jordan News Agency, a responsible military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army stated that border guard forces in the Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with the security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, successfully foiled an infiltration and smuggling attempt involving a large quantity of narcotic substances. The source explained that a group of smugglers was detected attempting to illegally cross the border. Rapid response patrols were deployed, and rules of engagement were applied, forcing the smugglers to retreat back into Syrian territory. Intensive search and inspection operations resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics, which were handed over to the relevant authorities. The source affirmed that the Jordanian Armed Forces operate with streng th and determination to prevent all forms of infiltration and smuggling, in order to safeguard the security and stability of Jordan.
