Amman: Venezuelan ambassador to Jordan, Omar Vielma Osuna, emphasized the critical role that Jordan plays in achieving peace and stability in the Middle East during an interview on his country’s national day.
According to Jordan News Agency, Ambassador Osuna highlighted the shared support of Venezuela and Jordan for the Palestinian cause and their endeavors to promote peace in the region. He called for new initiatives to end ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The ambassador also underscored the 71st anniversary of diplomatic ties between Venezuela and Jordan, which he described as strong and founded on mutual respect.
The ambassador noted the recent signing of an agreement to abolish visas for diplomatic passport holders between the two nations. Furthermore, he discussed ongoing plans to finalize agreements in cultural cooperation, tourism, political consultations, and agriculture. Efforts to reduce export costs between Jordan and Venezuela and the possibility of establishing a direct flight route to enhance economic connectivity were also mentioned.
Ambassador Osuna acknowledged the presence of a significant Jordanian community in Venezuela, primarily merchants contributing to the local economy. He also mentioned the existence of a Venezuelan community in Jordan, numbering approximately 1,600 individuals.
In celebrating Venezuela’s 214th anniversary of independence, the ambassador highlighted the country’s identity and sovereignty. He pointed to economic growth driven by reforms, national production resources, and infrastructural improvements, with particular emphasis on education, health, and technology.
Osuna concluded by stating Venezuela’s achievement of 100 percent self-sufficiency and its status as a major player in the global energy market, thanks to its vast oil reserves. He emphasized the nation’s commitment to using its wealth for national development and social justice.
