Senate Committee and Turkish Ambassador Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Amman

Amman: The Senate’s Jordanian-Turkish Friendship Committee, chaired by Senator Yassin Husban, engaged in discussions with Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Yakup Caymazoglu to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchanging legislative and sectoral experiences.

According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting, Husban affirmed the strong and historic bilateral relations between the two nations and emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in various fields, particularly in legislative affairs and political party development. He highlighted the relevance of Trkiye’s experience amidst Jordan’s recent political reforms and emphasized the activation of political party engagement within Jordan’s national modernization process.

The discussion also included insights into Trkiye’s healthcare sector reform, which led to the creation of a unified system integrating healthcare services and expanding insurance coverage to all citizens. Husban suggested that Jordan could benefit from adopting similar strategies to advance its healthcare system.

Additionally, Husban praised Trkiye’s supportive stance on the Palestinian cause and its ongoing backing of Jordan’s Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites. This support reflects the joint efforts to preserve the Arab identity and sanctity of these sites.

Ambassador Caymazoglu expressed appreciation for the longstanding bilateral ties and stated Ankara’s readiness to further enhance cooperation, especially in trade. He noted that the bilateral trade volume has reached nearly USD1 billion. He also pointed out that the two countries share political stances on key issues, particularly regarding the Palestinian cause and opposition to forced displacement.

Furthermore, Caymazoglu provided insights into Trkiye’s legislative system, which includes a 600-member parliament representing 81 provinces and a multi-partisan landscape with 17 political parties.

Senate committee members underscored the significance of learning from Trkiye’s experiences in tourism, culture, and economic development. Both sides acknowledged that parliamentary friendship committees play a crucial role in promoting cooperation, fostering mutual understanding, and supporting regional stability and shared national interests.
