JFDA Seizes Quantities of Illegally Used Milk Powder

Amman: Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), in cooperation with official authorities, seized a quantity of illegally-used powdered milk, documented the violations, and referred the involved parties to the Public Prosecutor.

According to Jordan News Agency, the judiciary is currently investigating the case, and the JFDA has stated that the names of the involved individuals or entities cannot be disclosed at this time to preserve the confidentiality of the investigation and the course of justice. The JFDA noted that authorities tracked an imported shipment of powdered milk and monitored its route, uncovering illegal practices in selling this product to local dairy factories, which violates the originally authorized purpose.

The JFDA has emphasized its continuous monitoring over food safety and quality in the Kingdom and mentioned that its staff has intensified oversight over the illegal use of raw materials for specific industrial purposes. Violations regarding the use of powdered milk and hydrogenated oils in the dairy industry have been detected, constituting a violation of technical regulations and approved specifications.

Dried milk is imported for industrial purposes unrelated to dairy production, and its unauthorized sale or trade is a violation punishable by law, the JFDA stated. Some parties have been using legally imported quantities for unauthorized purposes, mainly in dairy products, which are a staple in the Jordanian diet.

The JFDA underlined its commitment to protect consumer health and ensure the safety of imported and circulated food in local markets. It indicated that all products are subject to strict oversight and continuous monitoring by its qualified staff. Commending citizens’ awareness and cooperation in reporting any violations, the JFDA called for continued collaboration in serving the public interest.
