Momani Urges Unified Support for Palestine Without Compromising Jordan’s Stability

Amman: Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani emphasized the importance of supporting the Palestinian cause while maintaining Jordan’s national stability during a seminar marking the 105th anniversary of the martyrdom of Kaid Al Mefleh Obeidat. He stressed the need for unity behind the Hashemite leadership, the Arab Army, and security agencies.

According to Jordan News Agency, Momani highlighted King Abdullah II’s unwavering commitment to defending Palestinian rights and supporting resilience in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza through political, diplomatic, and humanitarian means. He reiterated Jordan’s steadfast position on the right of Palestinians to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Momani underscored that Jordan’s support is rooted in religious, moral, and humanitarian obligations, recognizing the creation of a Palestinian state as a critical national interest. Reflecting on Obeidat’s martyrdom, he noted the occasion underscores Jordan’s enduring sacrifices for Arab unity and freedom, as Obeidat was the first Jordanian martyr on Palestinian soil.

The minister also pointed to the historical Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem’s holy sites, maintained by successive kings from Abdullah I to King Abdullah II. He emphasized the ongoing commitment of King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to championing the Palestinian cause, positioning Jordan as a steadfast ally amid regional challenges.

Speakers at the event, including former MP Riyad Azzam and historian Bakr Khazir Majali, recounted Obeidat’s leadership in the 1920 Battle of the Fox Hills against British forces and Jewish settlers. Despite being outgunned, the mujahideen’s bravery and sacrifice left a lasting legacy.

Mashhoor Obeidat, a grandson of the martyr, called the anniversary an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to Jordan’s Hashemite-led national and Arab identity and support for the Palestinian cause. Poet Mohammad Sawa’ir also honored the sacrifices of Jordanians and their leadership in defending both the homeland and Palestine.
