Amman: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has revealed a significant operation to dismantle illegal water tapping activities along the Disi water conveyor. On Wednesday, officials uncovered 22 unauthorized tappings on the Disi pipeline and identified seven additional violations on main supply lines in the Ma'an region.
According to Jordan News Agency, a statement from the ministry detailed that inspectors discovered air relief valves on the Disi main pipeline had been tampered with, allowing thousands of cubic meters of water to be illegally diverted into tankers for commercial sale. This unauthorized activity posed a threat to the water supply system's integrity.
To address the issue, technical teams promptly repaired the damaged areas and ensured the restoration of the pipeline's full operational capacity without disrupting the main water flow. In Ma'an Governorate's Husseiniya area, authorities targeted seven unauthorized water lines that were supplying commercial car washes. During the operation, 10 pumps and storage tanks were seized to prevent further illegal usage.
The Public Prosecution has initiated an investigation to identify the individuals responsible for the illegal activities and ensure they face legal consequences.
