EU: Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Worsens, Food Rots at Gates

Luxembourg: Israel’s blocking of humanitarian aid from crossing into the Gaza Strip has caused a humanitarian crisis as aid is piling up outside the strip and food is rotting, said EU Commissioner for Quality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib. In a statement Monday ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, Lahbib spoke of urgent priorities as Israel pursues the genocide against the Palestinians: reinstatement of a ceasefire and facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, warning of a humanitarian crisis due to the denial of the entry of aid.

According to Jordan News Agency, Lahbib expressed grave concerns over the situation, stating, “For over a month, no aid, no food, no electricity, not even a single piece of bread has arrived.” She highlighted the paradox of warehouses outside Gaza being stocked with food while it is running out inside the strip and rotting outside because “we cannot enter the area, and at least 100 children are killed or injured every day.”

Lahbib emphasized that Israel refused to approve humanitarian aid missions to operate in the region, and noted the absence of international staff in both Gaza and the West Bank. She also described the deteriorating situation in the occupied West Bank, where “forced displacement and violence became the norm,” underscoring the need for decisive political action.

Following the foreign ministers’ meeting, Lahbib announced that the first high-level political dialogue meeting between the EU and Palestine will take place, involving Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. This meeting aims to discuss cooperation prospects, bilateral relations, and fulfilling the needs of the Palestinians.
