Amman: The Arts and Design College at the University of Jordan organized the Italian Design Day 2025 event on Wednesday, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). The event was sponsored by the University President, Nathir Obeidat, and attended by the Italian Ambassador to Jordan, Luciano Pezzotti.
According to Jordan News Agency, Nahed Amish, Vice President for Humanities Faculties, emphasized that hosting this event reflects the deep cultural ties and academic collaboration between the university and the Italian Embassy. She highlighted the important role of the Arts and Design College and the School of Foreign Languages in fostering this cooperation, particularly through offering Italian language programs and focusing on Italian art and design as one of the world’s leading artistic schools.
Ambassador Pezzotti expressed his gratitude to the University of Jordan for hosting the annual event, which is simultaneously held worldwide to highlight the importance of design in human life. He pointed out that this year’s theme, “Design for a Better Future,” underscores the role of design in achieving sustainable development and promoting innovation and justice.
Ali Abu Ghneimah, Dean of the College, noted that opening a window to global schools in art and design, particularly the Italian school, provides valuable opportunities for students and faculty members to benefit from global experiences and expertise. He emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and keeping up with the latest trends in design.
The event, attended by academics, designers, and experts in the fields of art and design from Jordan and Italy, featured a keynote lecture titled “Design for a Better Future” by Professor Alessandro Colombo from the Polytechnic University of Milan. The lecture addressed the relationship between design and social justice. Additionally, Deyala Tarawneh, Chairwoman of the Department of Architecture Engineering, delivered a lecture on “Inclusive Design in Affordable Housing,” and Dr. Mahmoud Jarn, Head of the European Languages Department, gave a speech on “Design and Literature: A Holistic Integration to Address Inequality.”
The event also included the opening of a historical photography exhibition at the college’s gallery titled “Photography for Lifelong Achievements,” presented by Alessandro Colombo. The exhibition displayed 150 artworks, including photographs, graphic works, and images created using artificial intelligence techniques, reflecting the evolution of photography through the ages.
