Amman: The chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), Bassam Alsarhan, emphasized the commission’s regulatory role in advancing the success of Jordan’s telecommunications, information technology, and postal sectors. Alsarhan gave his remarks during a meeting with Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and Adel Darwish, ITU Regional Director, upon their arrival in Amman to attend the Regional Telecommunication Development Forum 2025 and the Regional Preparatory Meeting for the Arab States, hosted by the TRC from February 3 to 5.

According to Jordan News Agency, Alsarhan highlighted Jordan’s recent achievements in the sector, particularly the launch of 5G services and their positive impact on various industries. Zavazava expressed his pleasure at visiting Jordan and learning about its success stories in telecommunications and information technology. He lauded the TRC’s active participation in international forums, technical discussions, and specialized committees within the ITU.

Adel Darwish thanked the TRC for hosting ITU events in Amman and for its contributions to regional and global telecom development. The delegation also visited several local institutions in coordination with the TRC. They met with Mohammad Khasawneh, Secretary of the National Policies Council, to discuss national policies on technology and telecommunications.

Khasawneh commended the Central Bank of Jordan’s Cybersecurity Incident Response Team, which monitors and addresses threats affecting the financial sector. The delegation also toured the Comprehensive Government Services Center in Muqabalin, where they were briefed on its establishment, objectives, and innovative service delivery models that ensure high-quality public services.

At Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), University President Ismael Al-Hinti briefed the delegation on HTU’s mission, which is part of the Crown Prince Foundation’s initiatives. The university aims to bridge the gap between an increasing number of technical graduates and the limited job opportunities available.

Baghdad: Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah, met with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Mohammed Ali Tamim, in Baghdad on Sunday to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic, industrial, trade, and investment sectors.

According to Jordan News Agency, the two ministers explored opportunities for leveraging Jordan’s expertise in the pharmaceutical industry, encouraging Jordanian investors and manufacturers to establish production lines in Iraq for pharmaceuticals, construction materials, and food processing industries.

Discussions also covered standardization, quality control, and certification cooperation, aiming to facilitate trade and industrial integration between the two countries.

Minister Qudah reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s development efforts, highlighting the significant growth in bilateral relations over recent years.

Qudah is leading the Jordanian delegation at the Joint Jordanian-Iraqi Trade Committee meetings, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration to enhance trade and investment ties.

Amman: Minister of Investment, Mothanna Gharaibeh, met on Sunday with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the investment field.

According to Jordan News Agency, Gharaibeh and the Uzbek minister, who is visiting the Kingdom for the first time accompanied by a high-level delegation from the relevant departments handling bilateral files between the two countries, emphasized their commitment to deepening the friendly relations between the two nations and increasing cooperation in various investment, economic, and trade fields. They also explored the possibility of establishing economic partnerships.

Both sides expressed interest in enhancing cooperation in the industrial sector, particularly in textiles and garments, fertilizers, chemical industries, and pharmaceutical industries. They also discussed opening avenues for cooperation between the public and private sectors in areas of mutual interest.

Zarqa: Zarqa Governor Firas Abu Qaoud on Sunday visited Azraq Lodge, one of the region’s leading eco-tourism destinations. Abu Qaoud said the lodge serves as a central hub for domestic tourism, combining recreation and sustainability while supporting nature conservation and environmental awareness programs. He emphasized its role in positioning Azraq (central-eastern Jordan) as a comprehensive tourism destination.

According to Jordan News Agency, the lodge offers visitors a range of tourism programs, including guided bicycle and bus tours that explore local communities and historical sites. Guests can also experience traditional folklore that reflects the region’s rich cultural heritage.

The visit aligns with the governorate’s efforts to support tourism investments and enhance Zarqa’s appeal as an eco-tourism and cultural destination, contributing to sustainable development and local economic opportunities.

Ajloun: The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Crown Prince Foundation’s (CPF) “Nahno” platform, organized a cleanup campaign across various areas in Ajloun on Sunday. The initiative aimed to enhance environmental preservation through community involvement and eco-friendly practices.

According to Jordan News Agency, Assistant Governor of Ajloun Akram Khawaldeh emphasized that environmental preservation is a collective responsibility requiring joint efforts. He noted that protecting the environment is an investment in the future, contributing to improved quality of life, public health, and sustainable development.

Tareq Al-Maaytah, director of the Ajloun Development Zone, highlighted the campaign’s spirit of cooperation among different entities to serve both the environment and the community. He stressed that maintaining the cleanliness of tourist sites enhances their appeal and sustainability.

Ajloun’s Tourism Director Firas Khattabeh stated that a clean environment plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable tourism, noting that Ajloun is a prime destination for eco and heritage tourism, requiring ongoing efforts to preserve its beauty.

Meanwhile, Ajloun’s Director of Antiquities Akram Al-Atoum underscored the importance of preserving archaeological sites as part of Ajloun’s cultural identity. He praised the participation of youth and volunteers in the campaign, emphasizing the need for continued community engagement in conservation efforts.
