ZATCA Thwarts Attempts to Smuggle Over 8 kg of Methamphetamine

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has thwarted attempts to smuggle 8.763 kilograms of methamphetamine.

According to ZATCA, its employees thwarted an attempt to smuggle 6.497 kg of amphetamine hidden in the ceiling of a car that entered the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through Al-Batha port and another attempt to smuggle 2.266 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in the luggage of a passenger arriving to the Kingdom through King Khalid International Airport.

After coordinating with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, ZATCA said that the four people supposed to receive the shipment were arrested.

The authority stressed that it will continue to tighten customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports, at all its customs outlets, and will deal with any smuggling attempt in order to protect the society from such criminal acts.

It calls on all citizens to help combat smuggling, to protect the society and the national economy, by reaching out to the designated number for security reports: 1910, via e-mail: [email protected] or through the international number 00966114208417, channels through which the authority receives reports related to smuggling and violations of the provisions of the unified customs system. It said it will deal with such reports in strict confidentiality, and will give a financial reward to the person reporting if the information is correct.
