Yarmouk: Yarmouk University (YU) achieved progress in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2026, jumping to 721st place globally out of 2,002 participating universities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the university ranked 220th among 827 Asian universities listed in the classification, advancing by nearly 150 places, compared with last year. The university stated this reflects its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
YU President Malek Alsharairi mentioned that the achievement results from a strategic vision that has guided the university since its establishment in 1976. Alsharairi noted the university continues to implement this vision by integrating sustainability into its policies, academic programs, and research activities, acknowledging the efforts of all academic and administrative staff who contributed to the accomplishment.
Vice President Ruba Bataineh emphasized that the university’s vision extends beyond improving its position in global rankings, highlighting its role as a partner in advancing sustainable development locally and globally. Bataineh added that the progress shows that sustainability at the university is an integrated institutional approach reflected in policies and practices.
Director of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Center Ali Shhadeh stated that the improvement reflects the YU’s efforts, praising the role of the rankings department and the sustainability office in monitoring performance indicators, preparing reports, and coordinating institutional work within the ranking framework. He added that the accomplishment underscores the importance of teamwork in strengthening the university’s presence on the global higher education map in the field of sustainability.
