Yarmouk University and Senegalese Embassy Discuss Enhancing Academic Ties

Irbid: Yarmouk University President Dr. Islam Massad met with Mamadou Mbengue, Advisor and Head of the Office for Senegalese Students in Arab Countries at the Senegalese Embassy in Cairo, to explore avenues for academic cooperation and support for Senegalese students in Jordan. Massad emphasized Yarmouk University’s dedication to its international students, positioning them as ambassadors for Jordan and the university upon their return home.

According to Jordan News Agency, Massad highlighted the university’s alignment with Jordan’s national efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, to advance the Arabic language and Islamic sciences. He noted that students from Muslim countries, like Senegal, are offered tuition rates similar to those of Jordanian students. Massad reiterated the university’s adherence to regulations from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as agreements with the Senegalese government, expressing readiness to support Senegalese students in their academic pursuits across various disciplines.

Mbengue commended the academic standing of Jordan’s higher education sector and Yarmouk University’s reputation in the Arab world and beyond. He cited the professional success of Yarmouk’s graduates as a testament to the university’s high educational standards. The Senegalese Embassy expressed its intent to bolster academic and cultural ties with Yarmouk University and to increase the enrollment of Senegalese students, particularly in fields such as Islamic studies, jurisprudence, and Arabic language and literature.

Currently, Yarmouk University hosts 17 Senegalese students in Arabic and Islamic studies, with six having graduated thus far.
