WBE 2025 Lauds Jordan’s Shift to Renewable Energy to Generate Electricity

Amman: The Amman-based Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) participated in the 10th World Battery and Energy Storage Industry Expo (WBE 2025), held in the Chinese city of Guangzhou, with a keynote paper presented by its Secretary-General, Mohammed Ta’ani. According to an AREC statement on Wednesday, Jordan received “widespread” recognition as one of “the best” countries in using renewable energy to generate electricity, in terms of citizen percentage, number of electric-powered vehicles, energy storage systems, and green building codes, as well as investing in renewable energy in charging electric cars.

According to Jordan News Agency, the event was attended by experts from across the world, presenting investment opportunities in the energy storage field at the Arab level. Notably, the Arab world plays a leading role in traditional energy sources, mainly oil and natural gas, within global supply chains. The statement highlighted that Jordan’s energy storage capacity rose from 175 gigawatt-hours to 230 gigawatts, reflecting the rapid development of the global battery storage and electric vehicle industries.

This growth in energy storage capacity has led to a noticeable decline in the construction of traditional fuel stations, marking a shift toward green electric transportation and an increased reliance on renewable energy and green hydrogen. However, traditional energy sources continue to be used in light and heavy industrial sectors. The statement also noted the transition to the Fifth Industrial Revolution requires a growing global demand for electricity.

Looking into future solutions, the statement emphasized that deserts offer a significant investment opportunity for establishing solar energy farms that could supply large data collection centers worldwide. Participants at the expo called for addressing geopolitical situations as a crucial solution to accelerating the energy transition, which is currently sluggish and adversely impacting global economic recovery.
