Amman: The University of Jordan, through the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology, has launched its first dedicated cybersecurity platform, “Cyber Security Hub – JUCC”, aimed at strengthening cyber awareness and capabilities among its academic and administrative community.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the launch ceremony, University President Nathir Obeidat highlighted the rising global cybersecurity threats that now rival traditional military risks. He emphasized the crucial role faculty and students have in generating and applying knowledge to defend against these threats. Obeidat also mentioned that the first cohort of cybersecurity students will graduate this year from the school, which is ranked among the top 100 IT faculties worldwide. Additionally, he announced the upcoming launch of a digital gaming center at the university.
Basel Mahafzah, Dean of the school, noted the significance of the platform, stating that cyber threats impact every aspect of daily life. He emphasized the need for institutional cybersecurity strategies to protect digital infrastructure, data, and communications. Mahafzah also pointed out the school’s achievements, such as ISO certification and ABET accreditation for its undergraduate programs. He mentioned the introduction of a cybersecurity diploma in collaboration with JODDB and the establishment of advanced labs in cybersecurity and related fields.
Mohammad Al-Atoum, head of the Computer Science Department, stated that the university considers cybersecurity a national defense imperative. He praised the university’s support for the program and the proactive spirit of its students. The platform was developed as a capstone project by the first graduating cybersecurity class.
Eman Momani, the project supervisor, explained that students led the initiative, showcasing innovation and technical expertise over the past year. The JUCC platform offers services such as bilingual awareness campaigns, tools to assess cybersecurity awareness, maturity assessments of institutional security, and a digital interface for educational content and competitions.
The launch event concluded with a ceremony honoring supporters from various sectors and included cybersecurity-related games, contests, and workshops throughout the day.
