Amman:The University of Jordan (UJ) has been ranked seventh among Arab universities and research institutions for the citation impact of its researchers and third for the impact of its scientific journals, as reported by the 2026 Arab Citation and Impact Factor (ARCIF) report.
According to Jordan News Agency, the 11th annual ARCIF report highlighted that research produced by UJ-affiliated authors garnered 10,870 citations across 2,301 cited articles. Additionally, journals published by the university received 20,722 citations from 3,555 articles, with an average of 5.83 citations per article.
Yarmouk University also secured a position among the region's top 10 institutions for research impact, ranking eighth with 10,692 citations from 2,073 cited articles. The ARCIF initiative, under the e-Marefa database, evaluated the performance of universities using two indicators focusing on the citation impact of Arabic-language academic publications.
Under the first indicator, Ain Shams University in Egypt led the rankings with 20,653 citations across 3,926 articles, followed by the University of Baghdad in Iraq and King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. The University of Jordan and Yarmouk University ranked seventh and eighth, respectively.
The second indicator assessed the citation impact of university-published scientific journals. Ain Shams University topped this category as well, with Cairo University and the University of Jordan following. The report noted a growing recognition of Arabic-language academic research, with ARCIF teams reviewing over 5,600 scientific journals, 1,303 of which met the initiative's accreditation criteria.
ARCIF Chairman Professor Sami Khazendar emphasized the project's aim to provide an Arab framework for evaluating scholarly influence and to increase the visibility of Arabic-language research. The ARCIF initiative is supported by UNESCO's Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States, ESCWA, and the e-Marefa database. A digital PDF edition of the report is expected to be released before the end of 2026.
