UN General Assembly President: Palestinian Self-Determination Is a Right, Not a Privilege

Amman: UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock emphasized that the Palestinians’ right to self-determination “is not a privilege to be earned, but a right that must be upheld,” asserting that there is no alternative to realizing this right for the Palestinian people.

According to Jordan News Agency, Baerbock’s remarks came during the observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. She highlighted that even after 78 years, Palestine has not been admitted to the United Nations as a full member, and the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights, particularly their right to self-determination, continue to be denied.

The commemoration this year marks the 78th anniversary of General Assembly Resolution 181, commonly known as the Partition Plan. The event was organized by the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Collie Seck, Senegal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
