Trade deficit up 30pct in Jan-Oct of 2022

Amman, Jordan’s trade balance deficit in the January-October period of 2022 jumped by 30.2 percent, hitting JD9.129 billion compared to JD7.010 billion in the same period of 2021.

According to a monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Thursday, total exports in the January-October period of 2022 soared to JD7.412 billion, up by 39.1 percent against JD5.330 billion recorded in the same period of 2021.

National exports in the January-October period of 2022 rose by 40.7 percent, reaching JD6.822 billion compared to JD4.847 billion in the same period of 2021, figures showed. The value of re-exports was at JD589.9 million during that period, up by 22.1 percent compared to the JD483 million recorded during the same period of 2021, the DoS added.

Imports also went up by 34 percent, reaching JD16.541 billion compared to the JD12.341 billion recorded in the same period of 2021.

On a monthly level, figures showed that total exports in October 2022 reached JD690.2 million, up by 12.9 percent compared to the figure reported during the same month of 2021.

National exports in October 2022 rose by 11.8 percent, reaching JD631.1 million compared to the figure reported during the same month of 2021.

The value of re-exports in October was at JD59.1 million, up by 26.6 percent compared to the figure reported during the same month of 2021.

Imports also went up by 13.9 percent in October 2022, reaching JD1.704 billion compared to the figure reported during the same month of 2021.

According to the report, the trade balance deficit in October 2022 increased by 14.6 percent, amounting to JD1.014 billion compared to the figure reported during the same month of 2021.
