Telecom sector investments stand at JD145mln in 2020-TRC

The volume of the telecommunications and information technology sector’s investments have amounted to about JD145 million during 2020, down by 18% from 2019, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) said to “Petra” on Thursday.

The drop in investment volume is due to the declining mobile phone sector’s investments by 41% to reach JD83 million, in comparison to JD141 million in 2019, the TRC pointed out.

Meanwhile, fixed line revenues amounted to JD38 million last year, up by 22% percent, compared to 2019, while revenues from data and audio service providers went up by 37% to nearly JD6 million, the TRC added.

The TRC said the number of the telecom sector’s workers has witnessed an increase by 2%, bringing the cumulative workforce to 4,296.
