The Syrian authorities Saturday reported that the death toll from the sunken Lebanese boat off the coast of Tartous has risen to 89, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
The Director-General of Sea Ports, Samer Kobrosali, said that search and rescue operations are ongoing.
Survivors from the tragic boat sinking reported that the boat had set sail from the Minieh area in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, to carry would-be migrants from different nationalities to Cyprus.
