South Korea Contributes $1.5 Million to WFP in Jordan

Amman: South Korea donated $1.5 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Jordan to support its response to refugees. Ambassador Kim Pil-woo emphasized his country’s commitment to the WFP in its efforts to save the lives of refugees. Since 2011, South Korea has contributed over $32 million to assist refugees in Jordan through various international organizations, including WFP. The new aid is a continuation of this support.

According to Jordan News Agency, the contribution will enable the WFP to continue providing cash aid, albeit at a reduced rate, for one month to 60,000 vulnerable refugees in refugee camps and host communities across Jordan. WFP Resident Representative and Country Director Alberto Correa Mendez expressed his appreciation for the donation.

Currently, the WFP provides cash aid to 310,000 refugees in Jordan, most of whom are Syrians, to help them meet basic food needs.
