Social Development Ministry Marks “16 Days” Campaign Against Gender-based Violence.

Amman: The Ministry of Social Development commemorated the “16 Days” campaign against violence toward women and girls with a celebration on Monday, attended by female leaders and representatives of civil society institutions.

According to Jordan News Agency, Minister of Social Development and Head of the Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment, Wafa Bani Mustafa, highlighted the importance of the global initiative, which spans 164 countries. She emphasized the ministry’s commitment to providing quality services to women survivors of violence, including psychological and social support, legal assistance, rehabilitation, training, and shelter through its Family Reconciliation Centers in Amman, Irbid, and Aqaba, as well as the “Amneh” (Safe) House for Women and the Karama Center for Victims of Human Trafficking.

Bani Mustafa reiterated the ministry’s zero-tolerance policy for perpetrators of violence against women and those who justify or defend such actions. She noted that the ministry is enhancing case
management across its 19 family protection offices in collaboration with the Family Protection Department, UNICEF, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). To date, the ministry has surveyed 21,000 cases and closed over 7,000, with plans to complete the remaining cases by January based on established standards.
