The Ministry of Social Development said Tuesday it offered cash handouts to 5,563 low-income families and in-king assistance to 1,692 others, and conducted surveys for health insurance for 4,394 and exemption from treatment expenses to 178 households during the month of November, according to the ministry’s monthly report.
The ministry’s anti-vagrancy unit arrested 1,098 beggars and seized JD2,761 in cash during 300 campaigns it launched last month, and also carried out 691 juvenile case studies in addition to handling applications for exemption from labour fees.
The ministry received 90 applications from impoverished families for home purchases, 84 for home repairs and construction of 4 others last month, according to the report.
The ministry’s departments received 143 license applications for nurseries and 12 to join homes for the elderly, and conducted studies to enroll people with disabilities in care centres, the report showed.
It also received 61 applications to establish charities, formed temporary bodies for about 22 others, while 41 societies applied for aid and 15 others asked for grants for enterprises, in addition to 37,503 beneficiaries from the ministry’s services, according to the data.
The National Aid Fund’s report also showed that 1,130 new families had benefited from the recurring cash assistance, 804 from the emergency financial aid, 67 from the physical rehabilitation and 11 from vocational training programmes.
