Safadi, Canadian counterpart discuss ties, region

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, on Thursday in a phone call, discussed with his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly ways to boost bilateral ties and a number of Middle East region’s issues.

During the phone call, the top diplomats affirmed the continuation of coordination and cooperation in various spheres.

Safadi, who congratulated Joly on assuming her post as Foreign Minister on October 26, 2021, stressed the importance the Kingdom attaches to its ties with Canada, commending the support provided by Ottawa to Jordan which helps its development march.

The two ministers discussed the soft loan that Canada announced to provide to Jordan in order to support the education sector in the context of continuous cooperation to support the development process in the Kingdom.

He also expressed thanks to Canada for supporting UNRWA, in addition to helping Jordan to bear the burden of hosting refugees.

The Palestinian cause was figured high during the talks between the two ministers, as the two sides agreed on continuing consultation and coordination over regional issues.

They also agreed on holding the first round of political consultations at the level of senior officials next month to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in various fields.
