RHAS celebrates World Mental Health Day, with activities to protect vulnerable groups

The Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) recently launched activities concerned with mental health, under the theme: “Mental Health Care is a Right for All, Let’s make it a Reality,” in celebration of World Mental Health Day (WMHD).

The ceremony, according to a RHAS statement on Saturday, featured physical activities aimed to showcase importance of sports on improving psychological health, in addition to drawing murals to support people suffering from mental illnesses and reduce related discrimination.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the event came to cope with the “urgent” need to control the spread of mental illnesses, primarily depression and anxiety, which “negatively” affect the global health situation due to changing world health and development priorities to protect vulnerable groups, the statement added.

For the first time, the RHAS launched, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), a school mental health program, which trains school staff on the skills of detecting mental illness problems among students, teachers and the local community.

The RRHAS, an initiative of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, aims to increase health awareness and empower the local community to adopt positive healthy behaviors.
