The value of the Qatari private sector’s exports to Jordan in the first half of 2021 rose by 17.6 percent, reaching nearly QR80 million ($22 million), compared with QR65 million ($17.8 million ) in the same period of 2020, according to statistics released on Thursday by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).
During the last year, the value of Qatari private sector’s exports to the Kingdom exceeded QR131 million ($36 million), according to certificates of origin issued by the chamber.
Speaking to Petra, QCCI vice chairman Muhammad bin Towar-Al-Kuwari said that the private sectors in Qatar and Jordan enjoy strong ties, calling for enhancing trade exchanges between both countries to serve bilateral economic and investment cooperation.
“The Jordanian market is one of the main markets for the Qatari private sector and an important destination in the region,” he added.
The Qatari exports to the Kingdom include chemicals, motor oils, polyethylene, polymers, sulfonic acid, iron wires, iron rods, plastic bags, aluminum briquettes, solvents and helium gas.
The volume of trade exchange between Jordan and Qatar last year amounted to QR660 million ($182 million), compared to QR802 million ($220 million) in 2019.
“More than 1,100 Jordanian-Qatari companies are currently operating in the Qatari market, most of which are working in trade, contracting, construction, interior design, maintenance, conference organization, services, education, carpentry, ready-made kitchens and others,” according to the QCCI.
