Public Works Ministry Launches JD6.1 Million Road Rehabilitation Project in Northern Region

Amman: The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the commencement of a road rehabilitation and maintenance project valued at JD6.1 million in the northern region. Technical teams are scheduled to initiate work next Monday, focusing first on a section of the Zarqa-Mafraq road as part of the central tender's initial phase.

According to Jordan News Agency, this strategic initiative is designed to enhance infrastructure efficiency, accommodating the kingdom's rapid urban expansion and continuous economic growth. The project aims to improve road safety, alleviate traffic congestion, and facilitate smoother movement between key regions and cities.

The project, financed by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), is set to span over 300 working days. It targets main roads that have seen deterioration due to heavy traffic, including sections of the Amman-Jerash-Irbid road, the international Baghdad highway, and other critical routes such as the Jerash-Zarqa and Irbid-Mafraq roads.

The rehabilitation will involve comprehensive maintenance, utilizing the latest asphalt mixes, and full rehabilitation of damaged road layers. Additionally, the project includes technical treatments, road markings, and the installation of safety features like reflectors and curbstones. Specialized maintenance of concrete and pedestrian bridges will also be conducted to ensure long-term structural integrity.

To manage traffic during the project's implementation, the ministry plans to introduce partial road diversions, allowing for alternating lane usage without complete closures. These measures, reinforced with safety protocols, aim to minimize disruption while maintaining traffic flow.

The ministry has called upon citizens to cooperate with field teams, contractors, and Public Security Directorate personnel to ensure the project meets high-quality standards with minimal impact on daily traffic.
