Amman: Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Royal Film Commission (RFC), met with Senator Haifa Najjar, Chair of the Senate Committee on Culture, Youth, and Sports, and committee members at Olivewood Studios on Tuesday.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting included a comprehensive briefing by Princess Rym on Olivewood Studios, underscoring its role in bolstering the film industry in Jordan, both culturally and economically. The session was also attended by RFC Director General Muhannad Bakri and Olivewood Chairman Raja Gargour.
The delegation was given a tour of the studios’ advanced facilities, providing insights into its technical capabilities that cater to both local and international film productions.
Princess Rym outlined the RFC’s initiatives, focusing on the impact of the film industry in reinforcing Jordanian cultural identity and its contribution to the economy. The dialogue emphasized increasing support for the sector, particularly the significance of portraying the Jordanian narrative through cinematic works.
Discussions also covered topics such as technology and intellectual property rights and included a brief on the Amman International Film Festival – Awal Film, which is a crucial platform for promoting Jordanian and Arab talent in filmmaking.
Princess Rym highlighted the importance of integrating filmmaking into cultural and educational contexts, recognizing its role in nurturing a creative and empowered generation.
Senator Haifa Najjar commended the RFC’s role in supporting tourism, cultural, and economic sectors, describing it as a comprehensive creative initiative. She emphasized the need for ongoing support for the RFC, acknowledging its success in advancing Jordanian tourism and developing a globally competitive film industry.
Najjar also pointed out the necessity to enhance the Jordanian national narrative through film, ensuring its reach at local, regional, and international levels, thereby promoting cultural refinement and fostering cross-community communication through varied content.
The dignitaries stressed the significance of strengthening the partnership between the RFC, the private sector, and other stakeholders to position Jordan as a regional hub for creative content, enabling the RFC to advance this critical sector and support Jordanian talent.
