Amman: Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Asem bin Nayef attended the 123rd session of the Hashemite Scientific Councils, focused on "Qiyas as the Basis of Ijtihad and the Flexibility of Islamic Sharia." The event marked the fourth and final council of the year, held at the Islamic Cultural Center Hall of the King Abdullah I Mosque.
According to Jordan News Agency, prominent speakers included Ahmad Al-Khalayleh, Imam of the Hashemite Court, and Zaid Al-Kilani, Secretary-General of the Jordanian General Iftaa Department. Al-Khalayleh elaborated on qiyas, a method of drawing analogies in Islamic jurisprudence, which links new issues without direct religious texts to established rulings due to shared causes. He emphasized that this principle enhances understanding and provides flexibility in addressing emerging issues in line with Islamic objectives.
Al-Kilani highlighted qiyas' connection to justice, pointing out that it ensures fairness by treating cases with the same underlying cause equally. He asserted that this mechanism achieves interests governed by Sharia principles, free from personal biases.
The Hashemite Scientific Councils, organized annually by the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs during Ramadan, are significant cultural and religious events. They aim to promote enlightened Islamic thought in addressing contemporary challenges under Royal patronage.
The session was attended by several high-profile figures, including Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Al-Khalayleh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom Ahmad Al-Hasanat, Chief Islamic Justice Abdel Hafez Rabtah, and various officials, muftis, Sharia judges, imams, preachers, and female preachers.
