Amman: A special security force and anti-narcotics units apprehended one of Jordan’s most dangerous drug trafficking suspects during a raid on Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD).
According to Jordan News Agency, the suspect, classified as highly dangerous and linked to regional drug trafficking networks, is the primary suspect behind an attempted large-scale drug smuggling operation via balloons across Jordan’s borders. The operation, which had been thwarted days earlier by the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, was part of a broader cross-border smuggling scheme allegedly coordinated with criminal groups in a neighboring country.
The raid followed extensive intelligence gathering and investigations tied to several thwarted smuggling attempts in recent days. Once located, the suspect accompanied by two others opened fire on the security team. The officers responded under rules of engagement, successfully subduing and arresting all three.
The main suspect and one accomplice sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities also confiscated the firearms used during the confrontation, along with equipment believed to have been used in the smuggling operations.
The spokesperson emphasized that this operation is part of a larger, targeted campaign aimed at dismantling the infrastructure of drug trafficking in the kingdom. He stressed that Jordanian security forces remain committed to stopping drug traffickers from threatening public safety and will continue to deal with them with full force and zero tolerance.
