Amman: Prime Minister Jafar Hassan met on Wednesday at the Lower House with the National Covenant Party parliamentary bloc, headed by MP Ibrahim Tarawneh, as part of a series of engagements with lawmakers. The Prime Minister emphasized the government's ongoing commitment to collaborate closely with the legislature and all parliamentary blocs on a range of issues, legislation, and initiatives aimed at improving services to citizens and fostering development across governorates.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting covered a wide array of local and international topics, with the Prime Minister outlining major programs and projects currently underway. Notably, this year is set to witness the launch of several strategic projects, including the National Water Carrier, the Aqaba-Shidiya-Aqaba-Ghor Safi railway, the integration of the Risha gas field with the Arab Gas Pipeline, and the development of Amra City.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Jordan's ongoing efforts under the leadership of King Abdullah II to address regional issues, with a particular focus on the Palestinian cause. He underscored the importance of supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people and enhancing relief, humanitarian, and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip as a top priority.
The discussion also delved into important legislation on modernization programs that the government plans to present to the House in the near future. MP Ibrahim Tarawneh emphasized the need for stronger partnerships and integration between the executive and legislative branches, advocating for enhanced parliamentary teamwork to serve the state's best interests and benefit citizens.
Tarawneh and bloc members called for sustained communication between lawmakers and the government, commending recent decisions to support universities by settling their accumulated debts and increasing allocations for the Student Fund. They also praised the government's proactive approach of directly engaging with the public to provide onsite solutions and measures.
The participants concurred that the current phase demands genuine cooperation grounded in responsible dialogue and a shift in perspective to advance political and economic reform programs, tackling challenges with a united national approach. The Prime Minister's meetings with all parliamentary blocs last year fulfilled a governmental commitment to maintain open channels with parliament, as outlined in the response to the Royal Letter of Designation.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Muhannad Shehadeh, and Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul-Munim Al-Oudat.
