PM condemns “cowardly” failed assassination attempt on Iraqi counterpart

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh strongly condemned on Sunday a failed terrorist attack targeting his Iraqi counterpart Mustafa Al-Kadhimi.

During a cabinet session, the Prime Minister rejected the act, saying it targets Iraq, its security and stability, and the region’s security and stability. The region, he noted, is connected to the situation in Iraq, pointing to the national efforts of various political forces to re-establish stability and fight terrorism that targets not only Iraq but all countries in the region.

Khasawneh expressed Jordan’s full solidarity with the people and government of Iraq, as well as the national forces, which contribute to the political process under the constitutional legitimacy to develop the country, achieve stability and lay down the groundwork to regain its leading role regionally and internationally. The Kingdom also supports defeating anyone who aims at pushing Iraq to the fire pit of terrorism and extremism that targets Iraq and its people, and any attempt to make the country a place for settling scores and conflicts, he added.

“This is a rejected cowardly act”, he said, adding “we fully support the Iraqi government and the national components that follow the political and constitutional process in Iraq”.
