Parliamentary Committee Advocates for Energy Efficiency and Rationing Amid Regional Turmoil

Amman:The Lower House's Energy and Mineral Resources Committee has advocated for increased energy efficiency and reduced waste in response to regional turmoil affecting global energy markets and the associated costs and prices of oil derivatives.

According to Jordan News Agency, MP Ayman Abu Haniyeh, head of the committee, emphasized that energy efficiency is a national responsibility tied to national and economic security. He stated that improving consumption patterns could alleviate burdens on citizens, the national economy, and the treasury, while enhancing the Kingdom's ability to adapt to regional and international changes.

Abu Haniyeh highlighted that the domestic sector is responsible for approximately 46 percent of the Kingdom's total energy consumption, underscoring the importance of programs aimed at optimizing resource use and raising the efficiency of appliances, buildings, and establishments. He encouraged citizens to adopt simple daily practices, such as turning off unused appliances and lighting, setting air conditioning and heating devices to moderate levels, using energy-saving lamps, and utilizing daylight.

Furthermore, the MP urged industrial and commercial establishments, hotels, and government institutions to conduct periodic audits of energy consumption, update high-consumption equipment, and implement modern control systems to help reduce operational costs and enhance performance. The committee members unanimously agreed on the necessity of enhancing national awareness of energy efficiency, intensifying efforts to protect national resources, reducing costs, and strengthening the security of energy supply.
