Amman: Head of the Jordanian-Russian Parliamentary Friendship Association, MP Abdul Hadi Brizat, reaffirmed the "robust" Jordanian-Russian relations across various fields. He said ties are based on "firm foundations of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect," which have been further strengthened under King Abdullah II and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Jordan News Agency, during a meeting on Tuesday with Russian Ambassador to Jordan Gleb Desyatnikov, Brizat highlighted Russia's balanced positions on Arab issues, particularly its support for a two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders. He emphasized the active diplomacy marking Jordanian-Russian relations and called for expanding cooperation in cultural, economic, and tourism sectors, as well as building joint partnerships that serve common interests.
The association's members echoed the call for strengthening ties in economic, tourism, religious, and cultural fields, citing Jordan's tourist potential, especially its globally significant religious sites.
Desyatnikov stated that discussions with Jordan continue on regional issues, primarily the Palestinian cause and developments in Syria and Lebanon, noting efforts aimed at promoting stability in Iraq. He reiterated Russia's support for a two-state solution and peace efforts in the Middle East, and mentioned Moscow's ongoing support for the Palestinian government in coordination with Jordan, as well as efforts to establish a joint economic committee to enhance economic cooperation.
