Palestinian Prisoner Dies in Israeli Custody Amidst Allegations of Torture

Ramallah: A Palestinian was reported dead in Israeli prisons on Wednesday, bringing the total number of Palestinian prisoners who died since October 7, 2023, to 75, including 46 from Gaza.

According to Jordan News Agency, a statement issued jointly by the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society accused Israeli prison authorities of deliberately starving and torturing Palestinian prisoners. The statement identified the deceased as Sail Abu Nasser, who had been imprisoned since October 7, 2023.

The statement further explained that the deaths of prisoners were primarily the result of torture, with allegations of the occupation’s manipulation of information and continued withholding of bodies. These organizations held Israel responsible for the death of Abu Nasser and called for an international investigation and accountability for Israeli officials.

As of early July, the number of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons reached more than 10,800, including 48 female prisoners, 440 children, more than 3,600 administrative detainees, and 2,454 detainees from Gaza. The statement noted that since 1967, the total number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in Israeli prisons has reached 312.
