Orange Jordan Concludes Hackathon for Persons with Disabilities, Celebrates Innovative Solutions

AMMAN: Orange Jordan has wrapped up its Persons with Disabilities Hackathon, a competition aimed at fostering digital innovation to address challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. The event, which culminated in a final showcase of innovative solutions, was part of a broader initiative to promote accessibility and inclusivity through technology.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Hackathon was launched in November in recognition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd. The event featured a four-day boot camp at Orange Digital Village, where participants received training in digital manufacturing to develop tech-based solutions for accessibility challenges. Out of 50 university students from across Jordan, five finalists advanced to the last stage, presenting their projects to a panel of jurors.

The final presentations included a range of applications and technologies: Empower Ability, designed to make vehicles accessible; Finn Technology, aimed at aiding those with
hearing impairments; LendMeSight, which supports visually impaired individuals; RECO, focused on affordable limb provision; and SWIFT, ensuring safe sports participation for people with disabilities. The winning projects were RECO in first place, followed by LendMeSight and SWIFT.

Rana Al Dababneh, Chief Corporate Communication and Sustainability Officer at Orange Jordan, praised the participants’ innovative ideas and highlighted the company’s commitment to using technology for community service. She emphasized the importance of these projects in promoting an inclusive society and acknowledged the collaboration with national organizations to enhance the leadership role of persons with disabilities.

Al Dababneh also thanked the jurors, which included notable figures such as Senator Asia Abdul Muttalib Abdullah Yaghi and Raafat Al-Zitawi from the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Orange Jordan has initiated several activities alongside the Hackathon, including awareness campaigns and
training programs under the “Differently abled, definitely enabled” initiative, aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities to effect positive change.

The company’s efforts reflect a commitment to a sustainable future that amplifies the leadership of persons with disabilities, aligning with the theme of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
