Amman: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remark regarding a “Greater Israel” has been criticized by Jordanian analysts and experts as a maneuver to divert attention from internal issues. Netanyahu’s comments, which envision a “Greater Israel” encompassing the occupied West Bank, Gaza, and parts of Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt, were described as a “miserable maneuver” indicating an internal crisis.
According to Jordan News Agency, the analysts emphasized Jordan’s resilience against such threats, highlighting its capacity to counter challenges and maintain its steadfast stance on the Palestinian issue. Senator Mohammad Dawoudia noted that Netanyahu’s statements reflect Israeli dissatisfaction with Jordan’s support for Palestinians and its exposure of alleged Israeli actions in international forums.
Sultan Maani, a historian, interpreted Netanyahu’s remark as part of a broader Israeli narrative aimed at legitimizing an expansionist agenda that violates international law. Maani pointed out that Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded promptly, labeling the statement as a “dangerous escalation” and a threat to sovereignty.
Political analyst Hamza Akaileh described Netanyahu’s remark as a “pathetic maneuver” to shift focus from internal crises. He emphasized Jordan’s cohesive leadership, diplomatic record, and ability to stand firm against such schemes.
Security and political expert Hussein Sarhan highlighted that Jordan is not merely reacting but actively influencing regional dynamics through historical legitimacy and popular cohesion. Sarhan stressed that Netanyahu’s statement is an attempt to escalate the regional situation, but Jordan’s diplomatic and political strength allows it to address such challenges effectively.
