Amman: Minister of Public Works and Housing, Maher Abu Al-Samen, and Minister of Interior, Mazen Al-Faraya, have discussed the progress of a key tender for the comprehensive development of the Karamah and Jaber Border Centers. The discussions took place on Saturday, focusing on studies, designs, and execution documents crucial for the project’s advancement.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministers underscored the government’s dedication to modernizing border crossings to enhance Jordan’s cultural image and improve visitor experiences. The Ministry of Public Works released a statement detailing the progress of the tender, which includes the preparation of studies and designs that began in late September for the Karameh Border Center and early November for the Jaber Border Center. The completion and delivery of these studies and designs are anticipated by mid-June next year.
The development plans aim to align these border centers with international design standards to ensure security, customs efficiency
, and smooth transit for freight and travelers. The vision includes transforming these crossings into modern land ports capable of meeting demands for the next 50 years. The Karama border center covers an area of 1,800 dunums, while the Jaber center spans 2,000 dunums.
The statement outlined the scope of work, which includes site analysis focusing on security and customs procedures, allocation of functional activities, assessments of current and future freight and passenger volumes, traffic studies to separate freight and passenger flows, as well as environmental and hydrological studies for both sites. These efforts are complemented by detailed surveys of all infrastructure and facilities to evaluate their current state and decide on preservation, repair, or removal as part of the new master plan for each location.
