Meeting of Arab Negotiating Team with International Media companies Concludes in Jordan

The first meeting of Arab technical team tasked with negotiating with international media companies wrapped up on Wednesday.

The two-day meeting was held in Jordan with the participation of representatives of Arab League member states, alongside a delegation from the General-Secretariat of Arab League.

Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the Arab League Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi said the meeting tackled the best perceptions to identify the executive procedures pertinent to the unified Arab strategy for dealing with international media companies, in addition to an Arab guideline to regulate social media platforms and means, regulate the work of digital broadcasting platforms and deal with digital taxes.

He outlined that the negotiation team stressed the importance of setting a collective negotiation approach based on an accurate timetable, as well as preparing all legal and technical data that concern the member states and drawing on international experiences in digital field in the-run-up to the second meeting which is poised to be held in Saudi Arabia during the upcoming weeks.
