Meeting at Ministry of Fisheries discusses performance of traditional fishing sector


Today’s meeting, headed by Deputy Minister of Fisheries Resources Taher Khater, discussed the progress of performance in the traditional fishing sector in the ministry and the plan to advance it during the coming period.

The meeting, in the presence of the Assistant Undersecretary for the Traditional Fishing Sector, Abdul Rahman Marfaq, and a number of directors of the relevant departments, reviewed the level of achievement in the guide for developing services and simplifying procedures in the ministry, and the mechanism for establishing banking windows to facilitate and improve access to banking services for fishermen.

The meeting discussed what was accomplished within the white loans project implemented by the Coast Tihama Fish Cooperative Society, with funding from the Supreme Agricultural and Fisheries Committee in the coastal areas of ‘Al-Lahiya, Al-Khouba, Kamran, Al-Arj, Al-Hawk, Al-Salif and Al-Nakhila,’ with the aim of providing 203 loans to fishermen to develop their businesses.

He touched on th
e role of the Tihama Coast Association and its interventions to serve fishermen and coastal communities under the supervision of the traditional fishing sector, and ways to enhance the ministry’s cooperation with the association to implement joint programs and projects during the coming period.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister stressed the importance of supporting coastal women’s programs in light of the studies that will be presented to establish a freezing and salting plant and other projects that will contribute to empowering coastal women and enhancing their role in society.

He pointed out the need to evaluate the performance of the ministry’s sectors, including traditional fishing, and take the necessary measures to develop and improve their performance
