The village of Mukawir is one of the villages of Jabal Bani Hamida, in the southwestern part of Madaba Governorate. It is famous for churches dating back to the Byzantine era, the most famous of which is the Church of Bishop Milachius, which dates back to the sixth century AD.

The fame of the village of Mukawir comes from the castle of Mukawir, which sits on a conical mountain that rises more than 730 meters above sea level. The famous historical and religious incident occurred in the castle, which is the beheading of John the Baptist.
