French President Emmanuel Macron announced yesterday, Tuesday, that his country will not launch preemptive strikes on Yemen to avoid escalation in the region.
Macron said in a press conference broadcast on the official presidential palace website: ‘France decided not to join the coalition that carried out strikes on sites in Yemeni territory, because we want to avoid any escalation.’
At the same time, the French President stressed that French naval ships continue to participate in ensuring safety in the Red Sea.
He added: “We are working to protect freedom of maritime navigation. It is a diplomatic issue, not a military issue.”
