Last phase of youth counter-Covid-19 capabilities support project concluded-UNDP

Sixteen young men and women from the southern governorates of Aqaba, Tafila and Maan, carried out the final phase of the capabilities development project of the youth action team to combat Covid-19 pandemic.

The step comes within the national initiative launched by the Ministry of Interior, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Jordan and with support of the Norwegian government, according to a UNDP statement.

The team will work with local communities with the aim of increasing the vaccination rate and raising awareness of preventive measures to confront Covid-19 in the Kingdom, the statement added.

Delivering his speech at the launching ceremony held in the Dead Sea region, Director of Local Development Directorate at Ministry of Interior, Mohammad Sarhan, expressed his thanks to the UNDP and the Norwegian government for this “successful” initiative.

The UNDP program advisor for Governance and Peace Team office in Jordan, Bakr Hiyari, said the program, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, is carrying out many projects that support Jordan’s decentralization and local and economic development.

Hiyari also noted local administrations and health organizations were the first institutions to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic, and this initiative is an “key” part to achieve our goals and common vision of a “safe and prosperous” Jordan.

The program worked to build the capacity of 240 young men and women from all the Kingdom’s regions to support the Ministry of Interior’s monitoring plans aimed to raise awareness for establishments and individuals on the importance of preventive measures and vaccinations in supporting recovery and reopening economic and social sectors in a “safe” manner, the statement added.
