Washington: His Majesty King Abdullah II held a series of significant meetings in Washington, DC, engaging with United States House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, various House and Senate committees, and House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.
According to Jordan News Agency, the King met with key committees including the Senate Appropriations and Foreign Relations Committees, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on National Security, Department of State and Related Programs. Discussions also involved the Senate and House Committees on Armed Services. The focus of these meetings was to explore avenues for strengthening the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, with His Majesty emphasizing Jordan’s commitment to ongoing coordination on mutual concerns to foster regional stability.
During the discussions, King Abdullah highlighted the urgency of enhancing international efforts to reinstate a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the implementation of all related phases. He stressed the importance of resuming aid flow and supporting reconstruction efforts in the Strip without causing the displacement of its residents. Furthermore, the King expressed his concerns regarding continued attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and violations of holy sites in Jerusalem.
King Abdullah underscored the necessity of establishing a political framework to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution. This solution envisions the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and he acknowledged the critical role of the United States in this process. Additionally, discussions addressed the situation in Syria, highlighting the need to maintain its security, stability, and territorial sovereignty.
The meetings were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States Dina Kawar.
