Amman: The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) has introduced a new portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) device to inspect precious metals at gold jewelry shops, aiming to enhance inspection capabilities and ensure compliance with legal karat standards.
According to Jordan News Agency, the device is designed to analyze the components of precious metals and accurately determine their purity levels and legal karat standards within seconds. This non-destructive testing method allows for precise inspections without the need to take samples or cause damage to the items being inspected.
The implementation of this technology is expected to provide fast and reliable results, significantly reducing the time and effort required for field inspections. JSMO stated that the device would enhance the efficiency of field oversight, enabling inspectors to immediately verify the legal karat standard of jewelry displayed in shops or held by distributors in workshops.
Furthermore, the technology is anticipated to boost consumer confidence when purchasing gold, silver, and platinum, thereby supporting trust in the local market and improving the quality of traded products. JSMO's statement highlighted that the introduction of this device aligns with their commitment to ensuring market integrity.
Data from JSMO for the first quarter indicated a strong performance in the jewelry sector, with the organization managing approximately 49.6 tons of gold and silver jewelry. Inspection and oversight activities were conducted across 128 workshops and commercial outlets throughout the Kingdom.
