JSMO Manages 47,000 Customs Declarations in First Quarter

Amman: The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) managed a significant volume of customs activity, processing 47,801 customs declarations and conducting 1,368 inspections throughout the Kingdom during the first quarter of the year. These efforts are part of the organization’s mandate to ensure compliance with technical regulations, specifications, and applicable legislation.

According to Jordan News Agency, JSMO data revealed that the organization issued 170 destruction orders for products that were found to violate standards and pose a risk to public health. These products included items such as detergents, wet wipes, children’s toys, electrical appliances, and tires. In the same period, the JSMO issued three closure orders against factories and shops, along with 32 warnings. Additionally, 53 entities were referred to the Public Prosecutor for violations, and the organization reviewed 208 complaints, referring violators to the judiciary for further legal action.

By mid-month, JSMO had inspected and stamped 5,400 kilograms of manufactured gold and silver jewelry, both local and imported, as well as 7,000 kilograms of imported gold and silver bullion. The organization’s data also highlighted the completion of 26,650 laboratory tests. Further, it inspected 4,675 fuel flow meters at stations and tankers, verified the weight of 3,150 gas cylinders, calibrated 4,220 taxi meters, and checked 615 types of pre-filled containers and 590 weights, scales, and weighing devices.

JSMO verified 2,689 conformity assessment documents to ensure their validity and inspected 1,200 elevators to confirm safety for public use. The organization granted 147 products the Jordanian quality mark and issued conformity certificates, including “halal” and “organic” designations. Additionally, JSMO launched the “commitment of trader” program, which facilitates procedures for traders adhering to technical regulations and standard specifications, expediting transactions for 36 companies.
