Jordan’s Power Grid Reaches Historical Peak Amid Heatwave

Amman: Amid the current exceptional heatwave, Jordan’s electrical system registered the highest peak load in the country’s history on Tuesday, reaching 4,765 megawatts at 7:38 p.m., marking a record high that reflects the “unprecedented pressure” on the power grid.

According to Jordan News Agency, a statement issued by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) on Wednesday indicated that the Kingdom’s electrical system “successfully maintained its stability and operational efficiency.” Despite facing some limited and isolated blackouts, the EMRC described these occurrences as normal for any advanced electrical system under such circumstances.

The EMRC emphasized that disruptions were addressed “immediately and with high speed,” highlighting the network’s ability to respond promptly and manage exceptional pressures with high efficiency and professionalism. This swift response was attributed to the diligent follow-up by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the EMRC, in continuous coordination and cooperation with electricity companies.

The EMRC further noted that Jordan’s electrical system “smoothly” maintained continuity of electricity supply to all regions of the Kingdom without any “significant” outages. This achievement was said to contribute to the sustainability of electricity supply for citizens and vital facilities, even amidst record loads and severe weather conditions.

The statement from EMRC added that this milestone reflects the efficiency and adequacy of the operational and technical measures in place, as well as stakeholders’ ongoing coordination and intensive awareness campaigns.
