Jordanian Women Drive Change in Transport Sector, Says Minister

Amman: Minister of Transport, Wissam Tahtamouni, stressed that Jordanian women have “proven their capability to assume responsibility and lead change in various fields.”

According to Jordan News Agency, Tahtamouni noted action to empower women and enhance their role in the transport sector is a ministry “priority,” based on the Royal directives to support their role in Jordan’s economic and social development. Tahtamouni’s remarks came during her inauguration of the ministry’s celebration of International Women’s Day, held to mark achievements of women in the sector and their active role in achieving progress.

Expressing her pride in the ministry’s female workers, she said, “You are essential partners in achieving our vision and mission. Jordanian women, especially those in the transport sector, have proven that their capability of making a difference and contributing to the Kingdom’s development.” Tahtamouni pointed out that the Royal directives have always emphasized the women’s role as a “key” partner in the Kingdom’s reform and development process.

The minister stressed continuation of providing a “supportive” work environment for women, in a bid to develop their skills and capabilities and achieve their professional and personal ambitions and contribute “effectively” to the sector’s development. Concluding her speech, she underlined pride and appreciation for every Jordanian woman who works hard and sincerely to serve her country.

The minister also urged continued action to build a “bright” future, with women always in the front lines, contributing “effectively” to make change.
