Jordanian E-passports to Be Issued in September: CSPD

Amman: The Government Communication Forum recently hosted Ghalib Tayeb, Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department (CSPD), to discuss the digital transformation system and the upcoming issuance of e-passports. The forum highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance digital services.

According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Zaid Nawaiseh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Government Communication, stated that the launch of the pilot phase for the e-passport service marks a significant step in improving government services. He emphasized the CSPD’s efforts to facilitate procedures and improve service levels for citizens both inside and outside Jordan.

Nawaiseh also noted that digital transformation is essential for providing quality public services, aligning with the government’s modernization roadmap. The CSPD’s progress in this area includes the upcoming issuance of e-passports, which is seen as a step forward in enhancing e-government services.

Tayeb described the e-passport issuance as a commitment to delivering top-notch services to citizens. He stated that digital transformation is crucial for advancing government services and described the e-passport as the new generation of Jordanian passports. These passports will feature a smart electronic chip with personal and biometric data, enhancing security at airports and border crossings.

Regarding technical features, Tayeb highlighted that the personal data page is made of durable polycarbonate, allowing for precise laser printing and including security elements to prevent forgery. Applications for e-passports can be submitted via the “Sanad” app or the CSPD’s e-services portal, with delivery within 72 hours. While obtaining an e-passport is not mandatory, traditional passports will still be available for two more years.

Tayeb announced that the pilot phase for the e-passport will begin on September 1, aligning with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization. This initiative is seen as a major advancement in the digital transformation of government services in Jordan.
